Derrick Van Yeboah arrived in the United States after Ghana extradited him and two co-defendants on 7 August 2025. The FBI investigated the case with Ghanaian partners.

The Justice Department later reported that Van Yeboah pleaded guilty on 5 March 2026 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. On 28 July 2026, a federal judge sentenced him to 85 months in prison and ordered forfeiture. DOJ attributes more than $10 million in losses from romance scams to his conduct. His conviction should not be attributed to the other defendants merely because they were charged in the same case.
