KATU reported on 25 September 2026 that Eugene police arrested Desta Jahniwind Ellsworth, 29, the previous morning after a Subaru repeatedly struck the U.S. Bank building at 800 Willamette Street. Police said officers were dispatched at about 10:02 a.m. on 24 September and found damage to the building and vehicle; the driver had left on foot.

A witness directed officers to a nearby restaurant, where they found Ellsworth. Police said he told officers the accelerator had stuck, including after he reversed the car. They reported that field sobriety tests indicated impairment, although a breath test registered zero percent blood alcohol. A drug-recognition expert suspected stimulant impairment, and police collected urine and blood samples for testing.

Police said Ellsworth was lodged at Lane County Jail on felony DUII, hit-and-run and felony driving-on-a-revoked-license charges. The reported suspicions and charges have not been presented as convictions, and the source does not report the results of the collected samples.
