The bodies of nine women were discovered in the Kempton Park area east of Johannesburg over about two months. Police are investigating the deaths, including whether any are linked. The latest arrests concern the death of Jabulile Ntimba, whose body was found on 17 September; the arrests do not establish that anyone detained is responsible for the other eight deaths.

Police said two women and a man were arrested over the weekend in connection with Ntimba's death. On Monday 21 September, the women, aged 31 and 38, appeared in court. The National Prosecuting Authority said they had been charged with murder, perverting the cause of justice and possession of a dangerous weapon. Prosecutors alleged they knew Ntimba and were with her on the night of the incident. They were due back in court for a bail hearing on 1 October.

The third person arrested, described by prosecutors as a brother of one of the women, was not charged because of insufficient evidence at that stage, according to the NPA. The supplied report does not establish his subsequent custody status. Separately, police said a man arrested in relation to the killing of another woman found in July remained in custody and was due in court on 28 October.

Police had discussed a possible relationship-related motive in Ntimba's case, but no motive has been established in court. Investigators have not concluded that a single perpetrator or group committed all nine killings. The two women are accused, not convicted, and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. No identifying details of the unnamed suspects are published here.
