Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned Nigerian-American Oluwatobi Adegoke before Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, on a one-count charge of stealing, according to the supplied account and reporting by PUNCH.
The supplied account gives October 8, 2026 as the arraignment date. PUNCH describes the arraignment and remand as taking place on Friday; the exact date is not resolved by these differing accounts.
The EFCC reportedly arrested Adegoke in July 2026. Investigators allege he belonged to a U.S.-based syndicate that promised to purchase and import vehicles for Nigerian buyers. The commission says he advertised a 2024 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG and two victims paid a combined sum of more than $320,000, reported as approximately ₦434.88 million.
The specific court charge
The charge separately alleges that Adegoke dishonestly converted $680,000 belonging to Ikechukwu Osita Ifeabunike in December 2024. According to the account, the money was transferred to Omosco Auto Sales LLC to purchase a 2022 G-Wagon from a person identified as Mr Robinson.
The $320,000 investigative figure and the $680,000 charge are different reported amounts and must not be treated as interchangeable or added together. Neither amount is a proven court finding.
Adegoke pleaded not guilty. EFCC counsel Arazeem Adebayo requested a trial date and remand. Defence counsel Olalekan Abiodun requested EFCC custody pending a bail application, after his objection to the arraignment had been overruled.
The judge reportedly rejected the custody request, remanded Adegoke at the Kirikiri correctional centre and adjourned the matter to January 13, 2027 for trial.
