Action News 5 reported on 25 September 2026 that Oxford police arrested Yahya Mohamed Mosleh, 51, and Islam Mohamed, 18, after a search warrant was executed the previous Thursday at Puffs Vape, Tobacco and Beer Store on Heritage Drive. Police said the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit had made purchases of suspected illegal substances from the business before the warrant was granted.
Investigators reportedly found more than 500 units of kratom, THC cartridges, gummies and other suspected narcotics. The two men were charged with possession of Schedule I controlled substances with intent to distribute. Those are allegations, not findings of guilt. Police said the store's owner, Amer Alowdi, had been indicted in 2022 in a separate trafficking matter and was not prosecuted after leaving the county, as described by the report.
The report noted that packaged kratom was present at scenes connected with two recent student-death investigations, but said investigators had not confirmed a cause of death. It provides no established causal connection between those deaths and this smoke-shop investigation.
