South African broadcaster SABC reported on 22 September that police were investigating several alleged fraud and corruption offences linked to people associated with Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe described allegations of fraudulent documents used to obtain Gauteng properties and a separate allegation about documents used to obtain Eswatini citizenship. SABC's initial report said at least four people linked to him had been arrested; the later court report gives a more specific account of the accused.

Eyewitness News reported from the Pretoria Magistrates' Court on 23 September that Tsakane Matlala, Given Makofane and Claudette Masethe were granted R20,000 bail each, subject to conditions including reporting to police weekly and not contacting state witnesses. The report lists Vusimuzi Matlala as accused one, with the three others as accused two through four. It says the three were arrested the previous day, so four people named in the case should not automatically be described as four newly arrested on 22 September.

The court report describes a Waterkloof property leased for R95,000 per month. Allegedly fraudulent financial documents form part of the investigation; the rental figure is not an established amount stolen. This fraud matter is separate from the other criminal case involving Vusimuzi and Tsakane Matlala. None of the property allegations has been presented here as a conviction.
