Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old mother of four, was found dead on 3 August behind a vacant house in Jackson, Mississippi. Police said she was found in a hanging position and are investigating her death as a homicide. Police have not confirmed that hanging was the cause of death, and the medical examiner's detailed findings have not been released.
Police said Earnest Lloyd Jr., 25, was arrested on 22 September and charged with murder. WAPT reported that he was denied bond. An arrest and charge are not a finding of guilt; Lloyd is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Jarques Ratliff, 51, was arrested earlier in September on a murder charge in the same case. According to reporting on an affidavit, investigators accused him of using a cable cord; that remains an allegation, not an established finding. Ratliff pleaded not guilty, and a judge denied his request for bond.
Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney said an arrest warrant had been issued for a third person. Police said they had asked the U.S. Marshals Service for assistance and had not publicly identified that person. The investigation remains active.
Fortune's family has asked the public to be patient while investigators establish the facts. This report does not attribute a motive or describe the arrests as convictions.
