The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with a series of alleged armed robbery incidents in Zebilla, Garu and Binduri. Police said the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate, the newly established Black Cobra Unit and members of the Zebilla Community Watchdogs.

The suspects were identified as Issaka Iddrisu, 20; Ali Tamimu, 21; Akugre Amobila, 26; Banabas Apiiga, 41; Abdul-Rashid Adamu, 38; Apiiga Alebena, 21; and Bilal Adabodee, 31.

According to police, the suspects allegedly admitted during questioning that they were part of a wider network of robbery gangs operating in the area and that the network provided weapons for criminal activity. These statements are police allegations and have not been tested at trial.

Police said two alleged robbery victims reported separate incidents and identified two of the suspects as members of a three-person gang that robbed them at gunpoint. The victims reportedly lost two Yamaha scooter motorbikes valued at GH¢30,000 and GH¢32,000 respectively and were allegedly threatened with death if they reported the robberies.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly told investigators that a person based in Bawku supplied the weapon used and provided a place where weapons were kept. Police said efforts were continuing to identify and arrest the alleged supplier and to investigate the wider network.

A subsequent search of residences linked to Abdul-Rashid Adamu, Apiiga Alebena and Bilal Adabodee reportedly led to the recovery of two unregistered motorbikes, quantities of substances suspected to be hard drugs and GH¢29,550 in cash. Police believe the money may represent proceeds of alleged criminal activity. The substances remain suspected drugs unless confirmed through forensic testing.

All seven suspects have been remanded into police custody by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court and are scheduled to reappear on 23 September 2026.
